Every year tens and thousands of people get sick from various diseases that could have been prevented by a simple vaccine. However, due to the lack of knowledge regarding vaccines or due to non-availability of vaccines, people are often hospitalized and some even die.

According to experts, immunization is the best way to protect our bodies from these diseases. Since late 2019 when the Covid-19 pandemic first made its appearance, every one of us understood the real need for vaccination. Hundreds and thousands of people died, while few more millions people got infected by the deadly virus, which scarred them for their life.

The entire world went to a complete standstill. Soon, we understood effective vaccines against Covid-19 are the need of the hour. People started comparing this coronavirus with the Spanish flu that happened around 100 years ago and killed millions around the world. However, this time something was different, now we are in the 20th century and science has made great progress, which eventually helped us to create multiple vaccines at a breakneck speed.

Currently, most of the countries around the planet have started vaccinating their citizens, while few of the countries have vaccinated most of their population, many of the countries have vaccinated as low as only 1% percent of their population.

In any case, many haven’t been vaccinated yet and they might have some confusion regarding the vaccinations. So, this article is for those who are looking to get vaccinated soon. Below are the few pointers that can help them greatly;

Vaccines are Safe:

If you have some confusion regarding the safety of vaccination, then it’s a perfect time to address this confusion. Please keep in mind, before any vaccine gets approved, it goes through rigorous testing to make sure it is safe and effective. That’s not all, most of the time members of regulatory bodies inspect the sites where vaccines are supposed to be manufactured in order to make sure that the vaccine makers are following the guidelines.

Once a vaccine is licensed, the concerned regulatory authority continues to monitor its use to make sure there’s no safety concern. Additionally, just like any medicine, vaccines may cause some side effects. However, these side effects are mild in most cases and they go away quickly, severe and long-lasting side effects from vaccines are rare.

Things to Do Before Getting the Jab:

You might ask, what are the things I need to do before getting vaccinated? According to doctors and experts, few things need to be taken care of before getting vaccinated.

  • Avoid smoking: In general, smoking is injurious to your health. Smoking before getting the jab can severely hamper the antibody response to various vaccines. So, it’s a good idea to avoid smoking before getting your jab.
  • Avoid Alcohol Consumption: It is no secret, that alcohol, in general, is not healthy. It is advisable to stop drinking 3-4 days before getting vaccinated as it can weaken our body’s response to the vaccine. The same must be followed after getting your jab.
  • Sleep: It is important to get six hours of sleep the week before you get your vaccine. As you know a well-rested body is better prepared to receive the jab.

Can I Contract the Virus Even After Getting the Vaccine:

Although the vaccines of Covid-19 are effective, a small percentage of vaccinated people still can be infected. However, these infections are called vaccine breakthrough cases. In the cases like these, the severity of the infection should be much lesser and the infected person might not even show any symptoms.

Complete Your Vaccination:

Please be informed about your vaccination series. If you have received the first dose of Pfizer’s or Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine then it is of utmost importance that you take your second dose also. Vaccines like Johnson & Johnson, Sputnik V consists of only one dose, if you are opting for these, then all you have to worry about is to get your vaccination appointment.

Don’t Show-off Your Vaccination Card on Social Media:

Please keep in mind, your vaccination card can consist of your personal data, which can be stolen by identity thieves. So, before posting the image of your vaccination card on social media, take utmost caution and make sure to blur or cover up your personal information.
